Summary

Seventy-three years after the events of The Death Cure, when Thomas and other immunes were sent to an island to survive the Flare-triggered apocalypse, their descendants have thrived。 Sadina, Isaac, and Jackie all learned about the unkind history of the Gladers from The Book of Newt and tall tales from Old Man Frypan, but when a rusty old boat shows up one day with a woman bearing dark news of the mainland--everything changes。 The group and their islander friends are forced to embark back to civilization where they find Cranks have evolved into a more violent, intelligent version of themselves。 The islanders are hunted by the Godhead, the Remnant Nation, and scientists with secret agendas。 When they cross paths with an orphan named Minho from the Remnant Nation, the dangers become real and they don't know who they can trust。 The islanders will have to survive long enough to figure out why they are being targeted, who is friend or foe, and what the Godhead has planned for the future of humanity。

Had some really amazing parts and reminders of the original books, but also felt kind of forced。 I read it in one sitting and thoroughly enjoyed being in this world again。

The Maze Cutter is the first book of a new Maze Runner series that continues 73 years after the events of the Death Cure。 Here the world is basically set up with two rival factions, the Remnant Nation and the Godhead, with our heroes (the descendants of the first series) stuck in the middle。Four POVs are presented: Isaac (basically fulfills the Thomas role), the Orphan (the Minho character who even calls himself Minho), Alexandra (a female member of the Godhead who seems to serve as the “bad guy The Maze Cutter is the first book of a new Maze Runner series that continues 73 years after the events of the Death Cure。 Here the world is basically set up with two rival factions, the Remnant Nation and the Godhead, with our heroes (the descendants of the first series) stuck in the middle。Four POVs are presented: Isaac (basically fulfills the Thomas role), the Orphan (the Minho character who even calls himself Minho), Alexandra (a female member of the Godhead who seems to serve as the “bad guy”), and Jackie (who serves no purpose other than to balance out the POVs with another female voice)。 The Orphan and Alexandra are somewhat compelling characters, while Isaac and Jackie are mere pawns of the plot, simply providing updates to the reader as the story unfolds。 There are a host of other characters, including the requisite gay couple (which seems forced and out of place in a dystopian world where replenishment of the species is probably the most important survival mechanism one can fathom), but they are not memorable having none of the personality or life of the classic characters in the original series。 Also, they seem to act much younger than the age presented in the book, like they are teens and preteens rather than 20- and 30-year-olds。 The Maze Cutter itself, a ship that carries the characters from the relatively safety and isolation of their utopian paradise to the dangers of the “real world”, is only in the story for about 20 pages, not enough to warrant being featured as the title of the book。The story is a snore。 Things happen, but they are not compelling and even though characters are wounded or killed, there is never any real sense of danger。 At one point two thirds of the way in, a trio of characters sit around summarizing the events of the “adventure” and at the end of their discussion one to the three muses that, “after all that talking, they’d gotten absolutely nowhere”, which is exactly how the reader feels after finishing this book。The Maze Cutter is a weak effort in my view and does not bring anything new to the table。 I am hopeful that further adventures will improve and that this novel is the one bad egg in a series of otherwise decent YA adventures。 。。。more

Everyone is saying this is a disappointment but honestly it wasn’t that bad。 The book is slow but it makes up for it in some ways。。a good read none the less。 :)

I loved the experience reading this book and all the references to the past and the Gladers, especially Newt, throughout the book。 The only thing was I felt like nothing much happened。 When I finally finished the book and put it down my first reaction was 'wow' because I did really enjoy it and the end was quite wild, but when I thought about the book as a whole, the plot was quite minimal。 Honestly that's not a complaint but if you are someone who values a plot with intriguing twists and turns I loved the experience reading this book and all the references to the past and the Gladers, especially Newt, throughout the book。 The only thing was I felt like nothing much happened。 When I finally finished the book and put it down my first reaction was 'wow' because I did really enjoy it and the end was quite wild, but when I thought about the book as a whole, the plot was quite minimal。 Honestly that's not a complaint but if you are someone who values a plot with intriguing twists and turns this MIGHT not be for you 。 。。。more

This was a fun addition to the Maze Runner series。 I did enjoy the main series better。 I feel like the characters were more likeable and I liked the urgency and unknown of the original series。 These characters weren't bad, but I feel they did not have as much personality and oomph。 They were kind of bland。 I liked Isaac and Sedina the most。 They were the ones we got to know the most。 Minho the orphan was kind of all over the place and we hardly got anything from Alexandra's POV so I'm not sure h This was a fun addition to the Maze Runner series。 I did enjoy the main series better。 I feel like the characters were more likeable and I liked the urgency and unknown of the original series。 These characters weren't bad, but I feel they did not have as much personality and oomph。 They were kind of bland。 I liked Isaac and Sedina the most。 They were the ones we got to know the most。 Minho the orphan was kind of all over the place and we hardly got anything from Alexandra's POV so I'm not sure how to feel about her。We follow 3 different storylines in this book。 The biggest one is Isaac。 He lives on the island (where everyone went at the end of The Death Cure)。 I think the only original Glader alive is Frypan。 One day, a boat comes in。 There is one old lady alive。 She has shot all of her crew。 She convinces Issac and Sedina along with some others including Frypan to go to the old world with her。 The second POV we have is Minho。 We don't get a ton of him in the beginning, but more as we go along。 He is from the Remnant Nation。 He gets let out for 40 days and nights to see if he is worthy or something。 But he doesn't want to go back。 The third POV we get is Alexandra。 We don't get a lot from her at all and I honestly don't know who she is or what is going on with her。 Her POV was confusing。The pacing of this book was good, but with the 3 storylines, I was a little flustered sometimes。 A lot of the times, we got a lot from Isaac, like several chapters。 Then we would get extremely short chapters from Minho, Alexandra and maybe someone else with Isaac like Jackie right in a row。 It was such a jarring difference to have a few solid Isaac chapters, then 3 or so really short page long chapters from 3 other POVs。 It didn't give me time to process what was happening in the other parts which is why the Alexandra POV has me scratching my head still。 I think she will play a much bigger part in coming books, but I was lost in this one。Overall, a good dip back into this world and I'm excited to see where this takes us!Thank you to Netgalley and Tantor Audio for an audio copy of this book in exchange for an honest review! 。。。more

I debated between 2 and 3 stars for a while, but only for nostalgia reasons I guess。 I liked a couple of the characters, but this is a half-baked mess, really, with grindingly unrealistic thing for its own setting even considering the genera and the general expectation for the book

This was a great follow up to the original three books。 Most dystopian books like this address that the apocalypse happened, the characters survived it, but they never follow up to see the influence the characters had in the future of their world。 It was fun to find all the references to the original series。I am very excited to read the next book to learn more about the Godhead and the Remnant nation。 These two groups were kept very mysterious and vague which made the book feel much more realist This was a great follow up to the original three books。 Most dystopian books like this address that the apocalypse happened, the characters survived it, but they never follow up to see the influence the characters had in the future of their world。 It was fun to find all the references to the original series。I am very excited to read the next book to learn more about the Godhead and the Remnant nation。 These two groups were kept very mysterious and vague which made the book feel much more realistic because the characters themselves are as clueless as us。 I also loved how there isn’t a defined good or evil side, it really made a lot of the character arcs and events unpredictable because even the characters don’t know what side to pick。 At first the frequent perspective switches were confusing but once you get started it’s really cool to be able to see what’s happening in different places of this world, helps create foreshadowing that made this book hard to put down。 The characters themselves were all good but my favorites would have to be Minho and Roxy, I loved their relationship and how personality wise they are polar opposites。 Isaac being the main character, I loved how he wasn’t portrayed as a brave, talented, heroic teenager that always knew what to do。 His flaws were clearly showed and that made him a very well rounded character。 While some of the characters don’t have a lot of personality yet, there is plenty of time for them to become more defined。The plot itself was perfect because you couldn’t guess what was going to happen next。 There wasn’t a single plot twist in this book I could have seen coming。 Especially the ending was perfect way to finish the book and tie is back to the original series。Overall, a great follow up to the Maze Runner series and I am excited to read the next book! 。。。more

giving it 3/3。5 stars; the new characters aren’t that likeable (except the new minho) and it was so rushed felt like so much and at the same time barely anything happened, so there’s that。 it’s most redeeming quality is the fact we get more info about the old gladers。 the prologue and epilogue carried the whole book fr。all in all, i feel like it’s technically unnecessary and the story surrounding the new characters isn’t interesting, but hey, who am i to complain about new newt info?

This was a good start to a new series。 It takes place about 70 years after the Maze Runner series, with some of the characters having ties to those characters。 However, these are all new characters in a different 'world' so it takes quite a bit of time to get into who the characters are and what is going on。 I think I liked Isaac the best, and I never fully understood Alexandria's role, but I would think her character development will come out in future books。Since this is a series there is a hu This was a good start to a new series。 It takes place about 70 years after the Maze Runner series, with some of the characters having ties to those characters。 However, these are all new characters in a different 'world' so it takes quite a bit of time to get into who the characters are and what is going on。 I think I liked Isaac the best, and I never fully understood Alexandria's role, but I would think her character development will come out in future books。Since this is a series there is a huge cliff hanger at the end, and so I felt like this was just the beginning of a very long book。 。。。more

Not to be dramatic, but my tears rolled back up my cheeks once the prologue was done, and I had no clue what was going on for most of the story。

Hoping for a Book 2For me, the book has too slow of a start。 There are so many plots being developed at once that by the time everything starts to come together and make sense, the book was over。 The maze runner series has long been my favorite though, so the way everything tied together at the end left me wanting more and excited to read the next book (which there better be one!)。

📚📚The Maze Cutter by James Dashner 📚📚Hi everyone, Its Christopher the reader here, the book we are here to talk about tonight is The Maze Cutter。 This book is the first book in 'The Maze Cutter Series。' which comes after the maze runner series。 When I first discover the maze runner series, I was about 14 or 15 years old, I was a huge fan of the show, Teen Wolf and found out that Dylan O'Brien who played Stiles was going to star in a movie version of the series as the main character Thomas。 So, I 📚📚The Maze Cutter by James Dashner 📚📚Hi everyone, Its Christopher the reader here, the book we are here to talk about tonight is The Maze Cutter。 This book is the first book in 'The Maze Cutter Series。' which comes after the maze runner series。 When I first discover the maze runner series, I was about 14 or 15 years old, I was a huge fan of the show, Teen Wolf and found out that Dylan O'Brien who played Stiles was going to star in a movie version of the series as the main character Thomas。 So, I decided to give the book ago。 At the time I hated reading, I wasn't very good, so I choose to read along with the audiobook。 After a day I finished and had to carry on reading the rest in the series。 I just fell in love with the story and all I did like for a whole year was re-read The Maze Runner。 Later I started reading other books。 I was happy and a bit scared after I read the news of this book coming out。 I first read this book in November; of this year (2022) It took me a little less than three days to finish reading。 The reading age for this book is 12-17 years。 'The Maze Cutter' was first published on the 2nd of September in 2021。 (Not in English) It first came out in English on the 1st of November, of this year (2022)。 The book was told using third person with it following multiple points of view (four: Alexandra, Isaac, Minho, Jackie) Which had 16 chapters and four parts。 All together the book had 285 kindle pages which also includes a prologue at the start and a epilogue at the end。-I thought that it had some good place and character detail, and I did like some of the world building that was in the story。 To be honest I do like this book more than 'The Kill Order' (The 4th book in the maze runner series)。 Before I started reading, I expected the typical, action-packed story。 This book took me a little longer to read。 I did feel that the story was a little slow paced at times。 This book was more about the journey, for me there wasn't that much action。 I was a fan of how this book allows us a look into the future of the original story。 I loved coming back to the world and seeing how it evolved over 73 years。 I was curious to find out where they were so many years later。 I did have to prepare myself for this a head of time as I am autistic and pretty bad with change。 I guess that it does makes sense that pretty much all of the characters from the original trilogy have long gone。 I also did give myself a spoiler as I brought the book as soon as it came out and started translating it into English with google translate (ahhhh, not the best)。 I didn't get all the way and flipped to the last page and saw a name and then I couldn't help myself and translated that whole page。 (oops)I feel like I am just not a fan of multiple viewpoints as a whole。 For me it seems like when I get engulfed in a scene and also attached to the character it switches to something completely different which can be very annoying at times。 also, this book did seem to jump around a lot especially because of how different the lives of all the point of views are。 Another thing is that I felt like one of the characters backstories was told a little too late within the book。 I do think that I would have liked if the story had a little more character development especially Alexandra who I feel that we saw the least within the book。 I would have also liked it a little more if somethings were further explained, I do think that things will be more cleared up in the next books。 I do hope that we get to know more about original characters and what happened to them when they were alive on the (Munie) Island。 I did like that when the point of view did change that it was labelled of the point of view that we the reader was now following, and I enjoyed the part when most of the multiple story lines collide in with each other though。 For me my favourite part has to be the small Newt journal entries, Personally I would have liked more of them before each chapter。 I just really want to read the full book of Newt。 I hope that we will maybe get more journal entries in the next books。 I love the fact that the glader slang was still in effect, that the characters took a liking to them and that they were used within the story。 I liked that we also learnt a little about what a part of the maze was built out of and how it worked。-I enjoyed that we as the reader got to meet new characters。 We got to know a few of the many characters a bit but not fully。 For me I do feel like I have a few new favourite characters already。 I liked the two characters called Isaac and Trish, in a way they did remind me a little of Thomas and Teresa。 I also liked the orphan named Minho after the character from the trials。 I loved the mother, son bond that he had with a character called Roxy also loved that Frypan was back (Old man Frypan) I had missed him。 I felt that he hadn't changed much in his old age which I liked。 I would like to read more stories from him and of which we haven't read about before in the other books。 I also loved anytime that Thomas, his friends and the maze was mentioned within the story。- Overall, I thought this book was good and was very well written。 I personally wouldn't say it was as good as the original, but it wasn't bad。 I do feel like this book was a great start to the new series though and am interested in reading the other books and finding out answers to some of my questions that I have。 I personally have a small idea of where this series maybe be going and am curious to see if what I think does actually play out。 After finishing the book, I feel like the summary shared a little bit too much to us。 I loved that we got Mark Deakins again, the original narrator of the maze runner series for the audiobook。 I spent hours re-reading the series over and over again reading along with the audiobooks。 For me having that the same felt nice, like coming back home。 I would love to see the now two series of The Maze Runner (Part 1 and this series) be turned into a TV Show。 If it ever does I would definitely go and watch it。For each Book that I read, I rate it out of 10 so for this am going to give it an 8 Remember this was what I thought about the book personally and I suggest that you give it a go for yourself。 。。。more
